About Arizona's Counties

Arizona has been a state since 1912, but some of its current fifteen counties have existed long before that. Graham County, for example, was founded in 1881 when the area was still considered a territory. Over the years, the land that would become Arizona has been divided into more and more counties, ending in 1983 with the creation of La Paz County out of Yuma County.

Today the counties of Arizona serve a critical role in local government affairs. From issuing marriage licenses, maintaining roads and parks, managing elections and property taxes to providing health care, court services, law enforcement, and public education, your county government may be a larger part of your life than you thought. The services that are afforded to the public via the county government arena are essential for maintaining a strong, efficient, and prosperous community. County governments, in being regional, are also more accessible to the public in terms of input and feedback. The actions of your county government have a direct impact on how you live you life.

Your county government would love to hear what you have to say; let your voice be heard and get involved in your county government today!
